About My Art
My primarily abstract paintings are led by the impulse to express my authentic self through colors, shapes and marks. Every piece begins with a feeling for working with a particular palette and evolves slowly or quickly into shapes, shadows and textural marks that feel like the next step. I often start with or include collage bits from colorful bags or gelli prints I have created. My visual language, which emerges instinctively, frequently includes circles, spirals, and architectural forms that suggest celestial bodies or earthly dwellings.
While my process is intuitive, usually with very little pre-planning, it is not without intention. Each piece evolves through a dialogue between impulse and structure--a continual dance between spontaneity and control. I am drawn to rough or imperfect "weathered" images, asymmetry and compositions that feel slightly off-kilter yet ultimately find their own internal resolution.
My art is intended to be interpreted loosely. I’m not trying to offer any narrative or particular statement. It is for viewers who are comfortable sitting with ambiguity and discovering their own meaning in it—who don’t need a specific story or decorative object. It’s about creating space for open-ended engagement. Ideally, my paintings resonate in the gut of the viewer who responds to them, and something more unfolds the longer they look.
